Godfather Beer Maker DeVANS to Enter Premium Craft Gin Market

New Delhi – DeVANS Modern Breweries Ltd, the company behind Godfather beer and GianChand single malt whisky, is set to expand its portfolio by launching a premium craft gin. Alongside this, the company is also introducing new high-end single malt whisky variants and ramping up its beer production.

Premium Craft Gin & Expansion Plans

DeVANS’ upcoming craft gin will be priced at around ₹13,000 for a 750ml bottle and will initially be launched in Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, and Goa, said Prem Dewan, Chairman and Managing Director of DeVANS.

The company is funding its expansion using internal resources and plans to introduce two new variants of its GianChand single malt whisky this financial year (2025-26). Additionally, DeVANS is working on super-premium liquor brands that are expected to hit the market soon.

Beer Business & Market Trends

Beer remains a major part of DeVANS’ business, contributing 65% of the company’s revenue in 2024-25, while the remaining 35% comes from bulk malt spirit sales to other liquor companies. With rising raw material costs squeezing profits in the budget liquor segment, many alcohol brands are shifting focus to premium and super-premium offerings.

This trend is evident across the industry—last week, Amrut Distilleries announced its entry into the high-end rum market with the world’s first single-jaggery rum.

DeVANS’ Growing Presence in Premium Spirits

Founded in Jammu, DeVANS has been producing malt spirits for other liquor brands since 1961. However, its own GianChand single malt whisky, launched in 2021, has shown strong growth in sales.

The company’s Jammu facility, capable of producing 400,000 liters per month, is equipped with some of India’s largest pot stills and has storage for over 25,000 barrels for malt spirit aging.

Competitive Landscape

Industry expert Vikram Achanta, co-founder and CEO of Tulleeho, noted that DeVANS has successfully positioned itself in the premium beer segment. However, India’s single malt whisky market is becoming increasingly competitive, with international brands entering the space and Indian distillers expanding production to meet demand.

With its expansion into premium craft gin and new whisky variants, DeVANS aims to strengthen its position in India’s growing premium alcohol market.
