Gujarat, known for its strict prohibition on alcohol, has earned ₹94 lakh in revenue from liquor sales at GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City) since an exemption was granted in 2023. The state government had made an exception for the financial hub to accommodate professionals and foreign investors working in the special economic zone.
Currently, two entities – West India Recreation Projects Pvt Ltd and The Grand Mercury – hold liquor sale licenses at GIFT City. Under the regulated system, only authorized individuals working within the fintech centre are allowed to consume alcohol within prescribed limits.
