The Telangana Beverages Corporation Limited (TGBCL) has opened up applications for new liquor brands from both local and international suppliers. Companies that aren’t already registered with TGBCL must include a certificate confirming their liquor has no quality issues. The applications will be available online for ten days for any objections, and after reviewing them, TGBCL will make decisions based on government guidelines.
However, M. Kameshwar Rao, president of the Association of Liquor and Beer Suppliers, expressed doubts about new brands making an impact, as consumers tend to stick to established brands. He also highlighted the high taxes on liquor in Telangana and the issue of rent increases based on sales. Furthermore, he mentioned that importing liquor from other states involves significant taxes, such as Rs 90 on liquor and Rs 45 on beer.
