Ahead of Delhi Elections, Items Worth Rs 194 Crore Seized, Including Cash, Liquor, and Drugs

Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, authorities have seized items worth a staggering Rs 194 crore, including cash, liquor, drugs, valuables, and freebies. These seizures were made at 175 inter-state border checkposts, as per the Chief Electoral Office of Delhi.

Delhi Chief Electoral Officer, Alice Vaz, announced the seizures during a press conference, also revealing that the commission has received over 5,000 complaints through the Cvigil app, and more than 100 complaints offline, regarding violations of the Model Code of Conduct.

Of the seized items, Rs 8.92 crore worth were intercepted by the Flying Squad Team. Additionally, over 15.6 lakh posters and banners have been removed to prevent defacement.

In terms of election day preparations, 210 polling stations will be upgraded to provide a better experience for voters. Special arrangements include 70 polling stations run entirely by women and another 70 managed by people with disabilities.

To help voters, a new color-coded system will be in place across polling stations, ensuring easier identification. Also, a “Vote-From-Home” service has been offered to over 6,400 senior citizens and 1,000 people with disabilities.

For those concerned about long lines, a new app called ‘Delhi Election – 2025 QMS’ will allow voters to check real-time crowd levels at polling stations, reducing wait times and improving the voting experience.

Election preparations are also progressing with over 21,000 ballot units and 18,000 VVPATs ready, and mock polls have been conducted to ensure everything runs smoothly.
