On Sunday, January 6, 2025, the state excise department in Nashik uncovered a fake country liquor manufacturing operation in Yeola. Officials seized goods worth over Rs 17 lakh and detained two individuals.
According to Shashikant Garje, the Superintendent of Police (SP) at the Nashik state excise department, their flying squad in Satana received a tip-off about an illegal liquor plant operating in a village in Yeola. Acting on this information, the team raided an agricultural farm in Nikam Vasti, where they discovered a large quantity of equipment used for making counterfeit liquor.
Among the items seized were five 250-litre drums filled with spirit, 150 boxes of a specific brand of country liquor, 30 boxes containing bottle caps from a particular brand, a bottling machine, three electric water machines, 250 litres of ready-to-sell country liquor, empty drums, cartons, and a multi-purpose vehicle used for transporting the illicit liquor. The total value of the seized goods exceeded Rs 17 lakh. Notably, the vehicle had a police sticker on it.
The excise department detained two individuals and filed a case under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act and BNS.
