Andhra Pradesh saw a massive surge in liquor sales on New Year’s Eve, reaching a record ₹200 crore. In just 14 hours, 60 lakh liquor bottles and 18 lakh beer bottles were consumed. The state government extended liquor sale hours by two extra hours for the celebration, which contributed to the spike in demand.
Here are some key numbers from the record sales:
- Liquor sales averaged ₹14.28 crore per hour.
- Retailers received ₹331.85 crore worth of liquor on December 30 and 31.
- A total of 4,10,192 cases of Indian-made liquor and 1,61,241 beer cases were delivered to stores.
- On December 31, 2.5 lakh cases of liquor and 75,000 cases of beer were sold.
The extended sale hours helped meet the high demand, causing liquor sales to more than double compared to the daily average of ₹80 crore. Experts believe the festive mood, along with the extended hours and relaxed government regulations, played a big role in this record-breaking consumption.
