The Macallan has launched a new limited-edition whisky, A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera, as part of its ongoing 200th-anniversary celebrations

This is the third release in The Macallan’s A Night on Earth series, which highlights different global traditions.

This whisky honors the Spanish region of Jerez de la Frontera, where The Macallan sources its sherry-seasoned oak casks. It will be available at major airports and retail stores worldwide starting in mid-December.

A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera is matured in a blend of European and American oak casks that have been seasoned with sherry, along with a rare batch of Pedro Ximenez-seasoned European oak casks hand-picked by The Macallan’s Whisky Maker, Steven Bremner. This special maturation process adds richness and sweetness to the whisky. The flavor profile includes notes of pastry, grapes, and anise, inspired by the Spanish tradition of eating twelve grapes for good luck on New Year’s Eve, and the traditional Jerez pastry, Pestiños (fried dough with sugar, anise, or honey).

The Macallan’s release captures the spirit of the season in southern Spain, celebrating family, reflection, and the promise of the future. Designed to reflect the warmth and vibrancy of Jerez, this whisky is a perfect festive gift.

The packaging for the release features artwork by María Melero, an artist from Jerez, who drew inspiration from her memories of New Year celebrations in her hometown. Her designs will also be featured in select airport displays, including lightboxes and digital screens.

Whisky Maker Steven Bremner shared that Jerez is vital to The Macallan’s history and future, and this whisky helps tell that story. The outer design of the bottle showcases a vibrant sunset over sherry vineyards and roses, which act as a natural alert system for the vines. Inside the packaging, traditional Jerez “azulejos” (wall tiles) are featured, depicting symbols of celebration, including casks, stills, oranges, and vine leaves.

This release is the latest in The Macallan’s A Night on Earth series, following two earlier expressions: A Night on Earth in Scotland, inspired by shortbread, and A Night on Earth The Journey, which reflected Asian culinary traditions.

Jeremy Speirs, Edrington’s Managing Director for Global Travel Retail, said this release celebrates The Macallan’s legacy of craftsmanship, tradition, and storytelling, offering whisky enthusiasts and collectors an exclusive, meaningful product to enrich their celebrations.
