Andhra Pradesh Government Takes Tough Stance on MRP Violations in Liquor Shops

The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced strict measures to tackle violations of Maximum Retail Price (MRP) in liquor shops. Liquor stores found selling alcohol above the MRP will now face a ₹5 lakh fine. If the violation is repeated, the shop’s license will be revoked.

The government is also targeting shops that supply liquor to illegal belt shops. The first offense will result in a ₹5 lakh fine, and for a second offense, the shop’s license will be canceled. These actions are part of a larger effort to stop the sale of alcohol above the prescribed prices.

In addition to cracking down on MRP violations, the government is focusing on eliminating belt shops, which are unauthorized outlets selling liquor. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has emphasized that strict actions will be taken against such shops.

As part of these efforts, the Andhra Pradesh government has recently reduced the prices of several popular liquor brands. For example, the price of Royal Challenge Select Gold Whiskey (quarter bottle) has dropped from ₹230 to ₹210, Mansion House (quarter bottle) from ₹220 to ₹190, and Antique Whiskey (full bottle) from ₹1,600 to ₹1,400.

These actions are intended to regulate the liquor market, ensure fair pricing, and make quality liquor more affordable for consumers.
