Liquor sellers in Uttar Pradesh have asked the state government to adjust the minimum guarantee quota for retailers

Lucknow: The Liquor Sellers Welfare Association in Lucknow has asked the state government to revise the minimum guarantee quota for liquor retailers. The association raised this request with the excise department as part of their preparation for the 2025-26 liquor policy, which will take effect in April 2025.

Retailers highlighted challenges in meeting the monthly demand quotas set by the department and suggested that these quotas be adjusted based on seasonal demand. For example, beer sales are higher in summer, while rum and vodka see more demand in winter. Therefore, the association is asking for a bi-annual quota system instead of a monthly one.

Additionally, the association has requested an increase in profit margins and raised concerns about poor internet connectivity in some areas affecting the point-of-sale systems. The excise department has acknowledged these issues and will discuss them in an upcoming meeting.
