Liquor Sales in Gautam Buddha Nagar Soar to Rs 25 Crore During Diwali, Marking a 25% Increase from Last Year
This Diwali, liquor sales in Gautam Buddha Nagar saw a major spike, with local consumers spending an impressive Rs 25 crore on alcohol over just four days, from October 29 to November 1. This marks a 25% increase compared to the same period last year.
District Excise Officer Subodh Kumar Srivastava shared that the total liquor sales for October 2023 reached Rs 250 crore, a significant rise from Rs 204 crore in October 2022. Diwali itself contributed an additional Rs 7 crore in sales, with residents purchasing more alcohol for family gatherings and social events.
The increase in sales reflects the festive mood, as people indulged in shopping and celebrations with friends and family. Srivastava noted that the demand covered a wide range of alcoholic drinks, from premium English spirits to local country liquor and beer.
With 564 licensed liquor shops across the district, the surge in sales created busy crowds at retail outlets. Local authorities took steps to ensure the situation remained safe and orderly, with strict monitoring and adherence to regulations to maintain public safety during the festive rush.
