The Delhi government is set to open more premium liquor stores across the city to meet the demand of high-end customers during the upcoming Christmas and festival season. Officials from the Excise Department say these new stores will be larger, with a minimum size of 500 square meters, and will allow customers to choose their favorite brands directly from the shelves.
A senior official from the Excise Department mentioned that the four Delhi government corporations responsible for liquor distribution have been instructed to open more premium outlets. These corporations—DSIIDC, DTTDC, DCCWS, and DSCSC—handle all liquor trade in the city since the excise tax hike in 2020 and the closure of private liquor stores.
Currently, over 45 premium liquor stores are operating in key shopping areas and malls across Delhi. The government has asked the corporations to find suitable locations for new outlets, which will likely be in malls or shopping complexes, depending on available rental spaces.
