In Patiala, the excise department has confiscated 175 boxes of English liquor worth about ₹5 lakh that were being smuggled into Punjab from Chandigarh.
Excise officer Shekhar from the Ropar Range, along with assistant commissioner Ashok Chalotra and an excise inspector, conducted an operation late on the night of October 26 and 27 after receiving a tip-off. They intercepted a vehicle near Behrampur, Ropar, and discovered the 175 cartons labeled “sale in Chandigarh only.” Two individuals were arrested at the scene.
