All government-run liquor shops have closed, and any leftover stock will be moved to the excise depot. Many private outlets are still waiting for sufficient inventory, and locals have noted that prices aren’t significantly different from those during the YSRCP’s time in power.
On October 16, private liquor shops reopened for business after five years, as the Prohibition & Excise Department started a new licensing period. The department has granted provisional licenses to 155 liquor outlets in the Visakhapatnam district, with 136 located within the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation area.
