The excise officer in GB Nagar has announced plans to take strong action against liquor smugglers and to digitize liquor sales

A model liquor shop will soon open in Sector 142, along with additional outlets offering both English and country wine in several nearby villages, including Jhatta, Atta Gujaran, Bhaipur Brahmanan, Mursadpur, and Tirthali in Jewar.

As Lucknow begins work on the Uttar Pradesh Excise Policy for 2025-26, Gautam Buddha Nagar’s excise officer, Subodh Kumar, highlighted key priorities. These include taking strong action against liquor smuggling, fully digitizing the supply chain for better efficiency and traceability, and promoting online payments to ensure authenticity and fair pricing.

With the festive season approaching, which typically sees increased liquor sales, Kumar emphasized the need for strict measures to combat illegal liquor transportation from Delhi and Haryana. These initiatives aim to modernize operations, increase sales, and improve transparency in liquor distribution across the district.

Kumar announced that six new liquor outlets will open along the Gautam Budh Nagar and Haryana border on October 20. These locations have been chosen carefully, as they are within 4-5 kilometers of the border and there are no other liquor shops within a 15-kilometer radius.

Areas like Noida and eastern Gautam Budh Nagar have faced issues such as overcharging, liquor smuggling, and illegal production. Kumar stated that the goal is to make liquor more accessible for legal-age customers while ensuring product authenticity through proper regulations and digitization of the sales process.

The department is already working on digitizing liquor movement, with about 70-80% of that process complete. Point of sale (POS) machines will be installed in every shop, along with mandatory CCTV coverage.

Recently, the excise department fined 26 liquor shops a total of ₹19.5 lakh for overcharging customers. Each shop is required to pay at least ₹75,000. Kumar mentioned that meetings at the excise commissionerate level will soon begin to gather feedback for potential policy changes aimed at better serving consumers. The new policy is expected to be ready in early January or February.
