In Noida, the local excise department has fined 26 liquor shops a total of over ₹19.5 lakh for overcharging customers. Each shop will have to pay at least ₹75,000. This enforcement action is part of a 10-day campaign running from October 4 to 14 aimed at reducing the production, sale, and transportation of illegal liquor, especially during the busy festive season when alcohol sales typically increase.
The district excise officer explained that stricter measures are needed to prevent illegal liquor transport from neighboring states like Delhi and Haryana. Inspections are being conducted to ensure that all vendors comply with the official price list and avoid overpricing.
Complaints from the public and through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System led to undercover checks at the shops. If overcharging was confirmed, the shops were fined accordingly.
