Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the sale and consumption of liquor and meat will be strictly banned in the area surrounding the Maha Kumbh Mela. He made this statement during a meeting with representatives from 13 Akharas and other groups.
Adityanath explained that the ban is necessary to respect the sentiments of the Sanatan community. He also mentioned that while the government is working on cleaning the rivers, support from the sadhu community is essential.
Additionally, he stated that land will soon be set aside in Prayagraj for the “samadhi” (memorial) of sadhus who attain “salvation” during the Maha Kumbh.
