The Kerala government is launching an e-commerce app that will allow people to order liquor, but there won’t be any home delivery option

The Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) is planning to launch an e-commerce app for liquor sales, aiming to streamline the buying process and cut down on long queues at stores. The app will be available for both Android and iOS devices, allowing customers to browse and order liquor online.

Key Features of the App

The app will include:

  • Online browsing and booking of liquor
  • Age verification for users
  • Secure payment options
  • Integration with BEVCO’s inventory system
  • Real-time stock updates for each store
  • Location mapping via Google Maps

How It Works

Customers can choose their products, make payments online, and select a time and place for pickup. The app will provide a booking ID and details for each order. After placing an order, customers will have a three-hour window to pick it up and a two-day grace period to collect their purchases.

No Home Delivery

It’s important to note that the app won’t provide home delivery. Customers must still visit the chosen BEVCO outlet to pick up their orders, but they can avoid waiting in line.

Development Process

BEVCO is working with the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) to find a startup to develop the app. Startups interested in the project can submit proposals through the KSUM portal by October 9.

Official Statement

A BEVCO official mentioned that the app aims to improve customer experience by making it easier to access product information and place orders.

Potential Impact

This app could significantly change how people buy liquor in Kerala, helping to reduce crowding and wait times at BEVCO outlets, even though customers still need to visit the stores.

Timeline

Startups have until October 9 to express their interest in developing the app, but BEVCO has not announced when the app will officially launch.
