Uttar Pradesh’s Excise Policy for 2024-25 has been amended with approval from the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. These amendments, aimed at providing relief to industries and streamlining departmental operations, were announced by the Minister of State for Excise (Independent Charge), Nitin Agarwal. He emphasized the importance of timely project execution to avail the extension of licenses.
Nitin Agarwal stated, “The license period for setting up breweries and distilleries will no longer be extended automatically. After three years, the extension will only be granted if at least 50% of the project work has been completed.”
The current policy allows the license duration to be extended for one year if the establishment isn’t completed, with an additional two-year extension if required. After this period, the license can be extended on a yearly basis. However, under the new amendments, a minimum of 50% project completion is necessary for any extension after the three-year mark.
Another significant change pertains to distillery projects. Previously, companies only needed to submit an affidavit regarding the capacity of the installed equipment. Now, the original manufacturing company will also be required to provide a certificate confirming the capacity of the supplied equipment, ensuring accountability from both parties.
These changes aim to increase transparency and ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner.
