The latest “What India is Drinking” survey has revealed that 71 Indian brands made the list of the country’s most popular beverages. Released by the bar ranking platform 30BestBars India, the survey offers a glimpse into alcohol preferences in upscale bars nationwide.
So, what are people sipping in cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad? The report highlights trends based on feedback from bar owners, bartenders, and beverage managers from 116 bars across 15 cities, including notable spots like Aer in Mumbai and The Maroon Room in Guwahati.
This year, over 600 brands were mentioned, with a strong presence of Indian brands among the top 10 in various categories. Notably, there’s a growing interest in premium drinks, benefiting both international brands like Diageo and Pernod Ricard and local distillers. Premium gins like Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire, as well as vodkas like Grey Goose, are gaining traction even in tier 2 cities like Guwahati, which are also leaning towards cognacs like Martell.
While Old Monk continues to be a beloved choice in Mumbai and Delhi, the survey indicates a shift toward upscale brands like Appleton Estate and Flor de Cana. Overall, the report emphasizes the rise of homegrown spirits alongside established international favorites like Johnnie Walker and Bacardi.
