On Sunday morning, Noida police seized nearly ₹1 crore worth of illegal foreign liquor from a truck on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. The truck, which was carrying alcohol intended for exclusive sale in Chandigarh, was intercepted near Chhaprauli cut on the service road.
The police arrested the driver, Sunil Kumar, 36, from Ludhiana, Punjab. They found the truck loaded with 166 boxes of 1,992 bottles, 223 boxes of 5,352 half-pints, and 181 boxes of 8,688 quarter bottles of alcohol. Kumar had planned to transport the liquor to Bihar, where alcohol is banned and thus in high demand.
The liquor, disguised as household goods to avoid detection, was sourced from Chandigarh. Kumar and his associates typically exploit Bihar’s liquor ban by smuggling alcohol from states where it is cheaper. The truck and its cargo have been confiscated, and Kumar is facing legal action under the Excise Act.
