Planning to host a house party with alcohol in Noida or Greater Noida? Make sure you’re on the right side of the law by applying for an occasional liquor license.

It’s crucial to have a liquor license for parties, even at home or community events, to avoid violating rules and facing legal consequences, including fines. According to Subodh Kumar Srivastava, District Excise Officer for Gautam Buddh Nagar, serving alcohol without a license, whether it’s from Uttar Pradesh or elsewhere, is illegal and can result in action from the excise department.

To enhance awareness of excise-related rules, authorities are reaching out to residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) and citizens to inform them about the guidelines for obtaining occasional licenses. These licenses, available in two categories, cost Rs 4,000 for smaller gatherings like house parties and Rs 11,000 for larger events at community halls, restaurants, or banquets.

Both licenses are valid for one day, and interested individuals can apply for them on the website upexciseportal.in under the category of useful public services. Srivastava highlighted that the excise department’s public outreach efforts have been successful, leading to an increase in applications for occasional bar licenses.

Official figures indicate that there was a 40% increase in the issuance of such licenses from April 1 to November 30 of the current fiscal year compared to the same period in the previous year. In November alone, 900 occasional bar licenses were issued, contributing significantly to government revenue.

Explaining the benefits of the policy covering private celebrations, Srivastava emphasized that obtaining a license ensures the authenticity of the liquor served, preventing the consumption of illicit liquor. Additionally, it encourages the purchase of locally sourced liquor meant for consumption within the state, preventing revenue loss from imports.

To facilitate reporting, the excise department has established a helpline number (8882120733) where residents can share information about the consumption of illegal narcotics, drugs, or any other tips related to liquor use.

Addressing concerns about how the excise department identifies liquor being served at private parties, Srivastava mentioned a widespread network of informers, observations from liquor vends and outlets reporting abnormal sales, and sometimes, complaints from annoyed neighbors alerting officials to disturbances at such gatherings.
