Indore: Indore excise department has marked half-a-dozen government lands to rent out for liquor shops as its bid to resolve conflicts often arise on opening/shifting the counter to a new place.
After failing to allot even 50% of its liquor shops in the first two rounds of the auction, the excise department approached the contractors and learnt about the issues stopping them to apply for the license for next financial year.
“The contractors have apprised us of facing protest by locals on opening/shifting liquor shops at new places” Indore assistant excise commissioner Raj Narayan Soni said, adding that the local administration has assured the contractors to make available lands of Nazul, IMC and IDA (as per availability and suitability) on rent to open the shops, where safety arrangements, if required any, will also be provided.
“So far, we have marked around six such suitable government lands that are lying vacant,” Soni said. TNN
