Lucknow: The excise department seized 4,685 litres of illicit liquor from various parts of the state and lodged 170 cases in the ongoing enforcement drive ahead of elections.
Additional chief secretary (excise) Sanjay Bhoosreddy said that 22,245kg of lahan used for manufacturing illicit liquor was destroyed during the raids. While 57 persons were arrested, one vehicle was confiscated.
Excise commissioner Senthil C Pandian said that 770 litres of raw alcohol was recovered and 3,600kg of lahan was destroyed during a raid in Jhansi and cases were filed against six persons.
A joint team of excise and police departments recovered 700 litres of raw alcohol and 5,000kg lahan in Lalitpur. Cases have been filed against five. In Hardoi, excise and police teams recovered 105 litre of raw alcohol and destroyed 140kg lahan. A case has been filed against three persons.
